Office WHAT IS EXECUTIVE COACHING? Executive Coaching is the structured, outcomes-led
process whereby a Coach supports and guides an individual through business
challenges enabling them to become more effective in their role. As such,
Executive Coaching is about helping the individual to develop their critical
thinking skills. Such critical thinking is based upon the ability to exercise
enhanced levels of awareness and to assume ownership of problems and
challenges. The process helps the individual to clarify issues,
challenge limiting beliefs, generate solutions, evaluate options and decide on
a final compelling course of action. In addition we use behavioural change
techniques to enable the person to quickly and easily change unhelpful
behaviour. It is widely acknowledged now that the development of
non-technical skills in the workplace best occurs by
(a) working through real world situations (b)
continually practising newly acquired skills over the course of several months
(c)using tried and tested models of such skills as: leadership,
management, communication, influence, negotiation, problem-solving,
decision-making, motivation, self-esteem, emotional intelligence, etc.
Executive Coaching, consequently, is recognised as the most effective way
of delivering these three critical elements in the workplace and has been shown
in large-scale studies to be more effective than traditional training courses,
executive retreats and computer-based programmes. The application, in turn, of
these coaching skills by the individual to their own staff or colleagues is
being heralded as the way of creating the Learning Organisations of the future.
In short, such executive coaching will enable your staff to improve their
performance in key results areas by unlocking their potential and teaching them
how to learn. WHAT IS THE Q-OPD COACHING
APPROACH? Q-OPD use a
proven and structured approach to coaching individuals and teams that combines
the very best of organisational psychology together with the highly personal
and tailored style used by top mentors. Consequently, a typical sequence of
events would be: (a) A preliminary face to face to determine what the individuals
outcome is and establish typical ways in which we can assist the individual
(b) Optional completion, by the individual, of a range of suitable
personality questionnaires and perhaps 360 appraisal in order to help raise
their levels of awareness (c) Feeding back and clarifying the results of the above
questionnaires (d) Starting the coaching sessions proper during which the individual
will be assisted to: accurately assess their current situation, generate
practical options and strategies, decide on a motivating plan of action and
address any concerns and doubts. Specific non-technical skills necessary for
successful achievement of the individuals outcome will be covered during
these sessions (e) In-between coaching sessions the individual will select specific
parts of their strategy to work upon and/or new or expanded skills to
practice (f) The coach will be available by phone, fax or e-mail to provide
on-going support and encouragement. HOW WILL YOU AND YOUR ORGANISATION BENEFIT FROM

recommend executive coaching when an individual:

behaviours identified by formal appraisal processes (e.g. 360 Degree Feedback)
or from direct feedback on the job quickly and
effectively
- Does not have the time
to attend a training course
- Feels it is more
appropriate to address their development needs in confidence with an
independent specialist
- Is likely to require
support over a period of time
- Has tried other
approaches without success.
