Q-OPD provides a number of services to enhance the range, effectiveness and quality of leadership within an individual or organization. These include 360 Degree Feedback, Personality Feedback, Blended Leadership Development Programmes, Communication and Influencing Programmes and Executive Coaching. These services can be used as stand-alone or to complement existing activities the individual may be involved in such as MBA-style programmes, internal programmes or executive retreats.
We believe that though not all people are born with the ability to lead, most people can develop their leadership effectiveness. Our approach is to help to make explicit the knowledge, skills, behaviours and attitudes that successful leaders display and to provide highly practical strategies for the individual to acquire these quickly and efficiently. Our goal is to produce sustained behavioural and attitudinal change that is both observable by others and that is generative.
360 Degree Feedback
Our range of both off-the-shelf and tailored competency frameworks and their associated behaviours are based upon carefully researched and peer-reviewed studies and reflect those functions and qualities that leaders need to display across a range of situations in organisations nowadays. We have used a carefully selected combination of leadership functions, behaviours and qualities that have been identified by Kouzes & Posner, Avolio & Bass, Kotter & Heskett and Blanchard & LaCoursiere. We operationalised these into a comprehensive yet elegant model of leadership some 14 years ago and have used these as the basis of our highly successful and popular leadership development programmes / retreats and executive coaching projects with hundreds of clients.
Personality Feedback
We use a very wide range of British Psychology Society reviewed Level B questionnaires that are based upon the 5-Factor Model (measuring traits) or Jung’s Model (measuring types). These greatly increase the self-awareness, social awareness and situational awareness of individuals in leadership positions enabling them to tailor their communication and influencing style to suit the audience being addressed. By making explicit their predictable habits of mind and patterns of behaviour some of these personality tests can also provide valuable advance warning on characteristics that could derail a leader’s career thus providing the opportunity to rehearse avoidance strategies.
Blended Leadership Development Programmes
We provide both reference and also tailored programmes to suit your needs. Our reference programmes cover our 3 Base Model of Leadership encompassing Leading, Managing and Enabling and encompass transformational, transactional and situational leadership needs. At the core of our approach is what highly effective leaders do rather than apparently are. This focus on observable behaviours, attitudes and skills enables virtually anyone with sufficient motivation, aptitude, credibility and training to lead others successfully. This is particularly important as the need for leadership is now no longer simply confined to the top of organisations and departments but should be seen at all levels according to the demands of the situation. This dispersed reality makes it all the more important for leaders to become role models of the desired culture of the organisation, i.e. its standards, values and ethos.
Advanced Communication & Influencing Programmes
Effective leaders not only need to act as role models, inspire, challenge, coach and encourage others but also to manage, facilitate, provide feedback, reprimand and problem-solve. All of these activities demand a high level of communication and influencing skills. We cover these vital skills by means of our ‘ROADSIGN’ Model of communication and influencing. This powerful approach enables leaders to connect with others, determine their communication preferences, discover their values, wants and needs, select the most appropriate influencing strategy, gauge its effectiveness and then plan the next steps. We have taught this approach to literally thousands of leaders over the past 14 years in many different sectors including public, private, not for profit and military and have had nothing but a resounding endorsement of its value in real world situations.
Executive Coaching
We provide a comprehensive coaching provision to managers and leaders and also coaching training to them so that they can coach and mentor others as well. In the case of the former we guide the leader through business problems and challenges in order to clarify issues, challenge limiting beliefs, generate solutions, evaluate options and decide on a final compelling course of action. In the latter we cover how coaching works, client development skills, the coaching process, coaching skills, the Q-OPD Coaching Model©, and how to use the process in an impromptu manner. Coaching is a particularly effective way of supporting the development of staff, consolidating training programmes, helping to ‘fast track’ individuals and providing ‘remedial’ help to staff who are currently experiencing problems that are impacting on their performance and effectiveness.
